Event Description

Have you ever worked on a great evaluation and despaired that it didn’t get the prominence and re-use that it deserved? Or have you gone looking for existing evidence, and struggled to unearth the evaluations sitting on myriad different web sites? Us too! The Australian Centre for Evaluation (ACE) has partnered with the Analysis and Policy Observatory (APO) to create the Evaluation Library. This presentation will give you a tour of the library as well as the other excellent resources on the APO site. And since library is still in its infancy, we will provide steps on how you can get your evaluations added. We’ll also give a shout-out to similar initiatives elsewhere, such as the UK's Evaluation Registry

Presenter Details

Doug Orr is an Assistant Director in the Australian Centre for Evaluation with over 15 years’ experience working as an evaluation specialist in federal and state governments, with expertise across a range of international contexts.

Event description:

A panel and discussion about ethics and the different ethics committees and pathways available to evaluators, including practical tips or traps for evaluators navigating this space. There will be opportunity for the panel members to share about their specific committees as well as wider discussion and Q&A.

Presenter details:

Kieran Gregory
Kieran Gregory is currenty a Principal Advisor with the Office of the Public Service Commissioner, leading the Integrity and Ethics function. The team's recent focus has been on developing and embedding a new code of ethics and conduct for NSW public sector employees, as well as strategies to build pro-integrity cultures in NSW. Kieran has previously worked in whistleblowing prevention roles in QLD and NSW, and is a sessional academic with QUT's Faculty of Business and Law.

Kelly Jones
Kelly Jones is a proud Gomeroi descendant through her maternal grandfather, with family connections to Boomi in New South Wales. Born and raised on Gadigal Country, Kelly now serves as the Ethics Coordinator at the Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council (AH&MRC), a position she has held with dedication for the past five years. Kelly has shared her knowledge and experience at key national forums, including the 2023 Lowitja Institute International Conference, the 2023 AH&MRC Ethics Forum, the 2024 AH&MRC Policy Health Summit, and the 2024 Reconciliation Australia Conference. She is passionate about supporting researchers and institutions to understand and uphold Aboriginal governance in research, advocating for culturally respectful approaches that lead to meaningful outcomes for communities.

Gerard Atkinson
Gerard Atkinson is Managing Director and founder of Iris Ethics, Australia’s first HREC dedicated to serving the evaluation, social research, and market research sectors. He began his career in market research and evaluation in 2001 and started Iris Ethics after executive roles including at ARTD Consultants and Australian Government agencies. At ARTD he led internal training on ethics and HREC processes, as well as delivered lower risk reviews of projects for the firm.
