Evaluation Journal of Australasia, Volume 26 Issue 3, September 2026

Editorial

The latest issue of the Evaluation Journal of Australasia explores participatory approaches to evaluation and the different ways communities and stakeholders can be involved in evaluation practice.

Tenille Moselen, Madelinne Miller, Anna Cutler and Sophie Boyle examine participatory grant-making and the tensions that can arise between collaboration and competition, while Jessica Renger, Stewart Donaldson and Michael Harnar provide practical guidance on participatory meta-evaluation. Maryam Shahpasand and Ilya Klauzner examine a program designed to reduce recidivism among young people in custody, highlighting the value of complementing quantitative findings with participatory approaches.

Alan Woodward and Leanne Kelly explore community resilience in a disaster recovery context, demonstrating the importance of community engagement, capacity building and context. Rounding out the issue, Anthea Rutter speaks with AES Fellow and former President David Roberts about his extensive career in evaluation, the importance of hearing community voices and encouraging evaluative thinking.

‍The EJA is published by SAGE Publishing and indexed in Scopus, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-revewed literature. We employ an online manuscript submission system and benefits from SAGE’s enhanced search functionalities, which means that your article is in a better position to be widely read and cited. The EJA now has a SCImago Journal Ranking (SJR) of Q2 in the categories of Development and Sociology and Political science. This is a measure of the increasing impact of the journal.

There are further online resources for authors, including advice on “how to get published,” preparing your article for publication once it has been accepted, and how to promote your published work. We encourage new and existing authors to contribute to the journal.
