The Queensland branch of the AES is an association of people interested in the evaluation of policies, programs and practices. Members include evaluation practitioners, service delivery staff, academics, those who regularly commission evaluation reports and other interested persons. We conduct free monthly lunchtime seminars (non-members welcome) and professional development workshops. Past seminar presentations are available here. All Queensland members of the Australasian Evaluation Society are most welcome to attend Queensland Regional Committee meetings and contribute ideas for, and assistance in organising, AES activities in Queensland.
Next Committee Meeting Refreshments will be provided All AES members are most welcome to attend committee meetings and share ideas for AES activities in Queensland. Workshop Brisbane Linking Evaluation and Social Justice Overview: This workshop explores the basic assumptions that encompass human rights as a driving force to define the evaluator’s world view and how it impacts decisions in the evaluation process. Many evaluations occur in contexts in which issues of social justice are salient; the transformative paradigm will provide the philosophical framework for determining contextual considerations in designing and conducting transformative mixed methods evaluation in ways that link the evaluation process and outcomes to the furtherance of social justice. The workshop is geared to meet the needs of evaluators who have responsibility for evaluation in communities that reflect diversity in terms of culture, race/ethnicity, religion, language, gender, and disability. Participants will be able to deepen their understanding of basic concepts and principles of evaluation by extending these to include dimensions of cultural diversity and transformative mixed methods approaches. Free lunchtime seminars on evaluation topics are held every month, February to November inclusive. Both AES members and non-members are welcome to attend, and to stay on afterwards for informal discussion and networking with other members of the local evaluation community. A light lunch is provided, courtesy of the Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet. The lunchtime seminars are also supported by Queensland Treasury, and in 2008 will be held in the All Ords Room, on the ground floor of the Executive Annexe, 102 George, Brisbane (entry is via 100 George Street). Please note that security arrangements in this building require Queensland Government employees to wear their identification tags at all times, while others must carry photo ID and register at the security desk. Click here for the 2010 lunchtime seminar calendar. Please note that this is a draft schedule, and will be updated progressively, so watch this space for further information about speaker, topics and dates (last update: 10 November 2009). If you are interested in presenting a lunchtime seminar yourself, please read our guidelines and information for seminar presenters, and e-mail Diana Beere to discuss topics and dates. PowerPoint slides presented at most lunchtime seminars since mid 2005 can be downloaded.
