Participatory clinic
Evaluation Dilemmas
Date: 14 September 2010
Presenter: Professor Elliot Stern, keynote speaker at the 2010 AES conference
Clinic fees: $410 AES members and those from non-government not-for-profit organisations, $553 non-members (incl. GST) 50% Discount for full time students
Workshop focus and approach
The workshop will adopt a 'clinic' type approach in which participants are encouraged to bring their real world evaluation dilemmas which will then be analysed together in small facilitated groups. Frameworks and alternative approaches will be presented and discussed alongside inputs from participants. The types of issues to be covered should draw on the following range:
- choosing methods
- relating to clients and stakeholders
- using frameworks, theories and concepts
- working with policy communities
- how conclusions are framed
The workshop is designed to enable participants to analyse a range of evaluation dilemmas in order to identify and clarify the issues involved and to examine possible options for addressing these issues and working through the dilemmas.
Who should attend
The expectation is that participants will be experienced evaluators generally familiar with the field and currently or recently involved in an actual evaluation from which they can share one or more evaluation dilemmas.
Commissioners of evaluations could also attend but the workshop is more likely to match the needs of practicing evaluators. Numbers will be limited to 25.
